Town of Standish Launches Community Solar Program in Collaboration with Solar Simplified

Program offers Standish residents and businesses 15% savings with subscriptions to local Maine solar projects, including one being developed in Standish.

STANDISH, ME, UNITED STATES, September 3, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Town of Standish announced the launch of a Community Solar program that will allow residents and businesses to save on their electric bills by subscribing to local solar projects. The program, offered in collaboration with Solar Simplified, is available to all Central Maine Power (CMP) customers in Standish and provides 15% savings on solar credits applied directly to their CMP bill.

Community Solar is a program regulated by the Maine Public Utilities Commission that allows CMP customers to receive credits from local solar projects. Participants subscribe to a share of a solar project, and as the project produces energy, credits are applied directly to their CMP bill. No solar panels are installed at participants' homes or businesses, and there are no enrollment fees, credit checks, or long-term commitments. Community solar makes the benefits of solar accessible to households and businesses that cannot install rooftop panels, including renters, homeowners with unsuitable roofs, and businesses in leased space.

Through the program, Standish residents and businesses will be connected to local Maine solar projects, including one being developed right here in Standish. The first available projects are expected to go live this fall.

Under the collaboration, Solar Simplified will manage enrollment, customer service, and billing directly with subscribers, while the Town of Standish oversees resident-facing communications about the program. Solar Simplified does not conduct door-to-door sales or use commission-based marketers, and all official program communications will come from the Town of Standish or Solar Simplified directly.
