Maine Department of Professional and Financial Regulation Commissioner Warns Mainers about Scam Emails

Augusta, MAINE - The Maine Department of Professional and Financial Regulation (DPFR) Commissioner Joan Cohen is alerting Mainers to a scam email campaign in which fraudsters impersonate the Department and its Agencies, including the Office of Occupational and Professional Regulation.
Multiple individuals have reported receiving messages claiming to be from DPFR, often marked "Action Required", "Violation Notice," or requests to sign documents. These messages may appear to come from legitimate-looking email addresses. However, they may contain harmful links or attachments.
These emails are not generated by DPFR.
DPFR advises Mainers not to click any links, open any attachments, or provide personal information in response to unexpected or suspicious emails. If you receive an email of this nature, please delete it.
Commissioner Cohen urges, "Anyone who receives a suspicious email claiming to be from DPFR should reach out to their known DPFR contact or send a message to DPFR@maine.gov to confirm whether the communication is legitimate."
